I have decided to take a break from crocheting and try my hand at another hobby that I love... SEWING! Let me take a brief moment to explain how I came across these pads and my desire to make them.
My mom was recently diagnosed with Gastroparesis - a condition that reduces the ability of the stomach to empty its contents. It does not involve a blockage (obstruction). Due to this disease, she has been extremely limited to what she can eat or drink. She has lost a significant amount of weight over the past few months. My mom is a small woman to begin with, weighing in at less than 100 lbs at a healthy weight. With this crazy weight loss, she was down to mid 80's. Last week she had to have a feeding tube inserted into her small bowel so that the formula that has to go through the tube can completely bypass her stomach, giving it a much needed break. G tubes are known to "leak" a little so the hospital sends you home with gauze pads that you are supposed to place around the part of the tube that comes out of your abdomen... now come on... even though most won't see it, who wants to look at boring old gauze all the time. Especially when in addition to gauze, you have to adjust to having a "stomach accessory." She came across an item online called Button Buddies, but if you are familiar with them, are extremely expensive. I came up with my own version of this product and she seems to be very pleased. My G Tube Pals are made from three layers - the top layer is a simple cotton fabric (available in any requested color) the middle layer - a soft and absorbent cotton piece (similar to a cloth diaper) and the bottom layer - fleece because this is against your skin so I wanted it to be really soft. This is all put together with a simple snap - no velcro to irritate skin if not lined up properly. The ones in the picture are about three inches in diameter, I do have a smaller size that will be pictured soon, that one is two inches in diameter. If you need a different size, please just clarify in the "special notes to seller" section when checking out. How to Use - Unsnap, place around your G tube and secure the snap! EASY! They are washable and re-usable! Can be used over and over again! My sets are a weeks worth of pads, switching once daily for $15. I charge $3.95 for shipping. I also have available a washing bag for laundering the pads, so that you can keep them contained together without having to search through a load to find each one. These bags are $5.
